Expressway Bridge Collapse in Bangkok Kills SevenA section of the under-construction Dao Khanong Expressway Bridge collapsed onto Rama II Road in Chom Thong district, Bangkok, Thailand.
The incident took place at 1:48 am on 15 March, killing seven people and injuring many others.
The collapse occurred near Soi 25, close to the Dao Khanong Expressway entrance, when a concrete beam structure gave way, crashing onto the existing expressway bridge. Around 30 people are feared trapped under the debris as emergency crews work to rescue survivors.
The bridge is part of the Rama III – Dao Khanong Expressway project.
Thai officials note that the structure was similar to another elevated expressway section that collapsed on Rama II Road last year. The cause of the incident is under investigation.
