Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra affirmed that her father, Thaksin Shinawatra, does not exert control over her or the Pheu Thai Party. She explained that while she values the opinions of her family and those she respects, she makes her own decisions.
She also clarified that Thaksin has no intention of holding any government position, acknowledging the delicate legal issues involved. Additionally, she denied reports that Thaksin opposes having anyone from the Wongsuwan family in her cabinet.
Paetongtarn expressed her commitment to performing her duties to the best of her ability, noting that while she hadn’t initially planned to become Prime Minister, she is now fully prepared to serve the people.
She recognized the pressing economic challenges facing the country and outlined her administration’s priorities: stimulating economic growth, eradicating drug issues, enhancing the universal healthcare program, and advancing the soft power policy.
Regarding the digital wallet policy, Paetongtarn stated that her government will reassess the policy and seek additional input to ensure it complies with the State Fiscal and Financial Disciplines Act. She dismissed reports suggesting that Thaksin ordered the policy’s withdrawal to smooth her path in office.
